Amritsar: The Amritsar massacre was a British military attack on a Seek temple resulting in hundreds of Indian deaths and the Indians wanting total independence from the Raj
British East India Trading Company: was an English joint-stock company, formed to pursue trade with the East Indies, but which ended up trading mainly with the Indian subcontinent and Qing China.
Caste System: a system of segregation of people. In India there were four caste categories, Brahmins, Kshatriyas, Vaishyas, and Sudras. The caste system governed people’s place in society.
Cash Crop: a crop that is typically grown for the purpose of being sold and obtaining a profit. Some examples include cotton and tobacco.
Moghul Empire: was a Persian Empire extending over large parts of the Indian subcontinent and ruled by a dynasty of Mongol and Chagatai-Turkic origin.
Rowlatt Acts: Acts passed by the British to expand their power during times of war
Sati: a funeral ritual in which a widowed woman commits suicide by burning herself, typically at the funeral of her late husband.
Sepoy: Indian soldier
Untouchables: the lowest class in the caste system, but according to Gandhi they were the Harijans or children of God
